If you feel that your energy use is getting diminished returns, it could be that your heating systems need a good clear out to get them working properly and transferring heat, again.
Over time, sludge and debris can accumulate in your pipework, radiators and heat exchangers, causing blockages, and making it harder to heat your home.
If left untreated, it can lead to even more expensive problems, as the boiler will also become damaged and cease working. Dirty water is the main culprit, when it comes to sludge, and is more likely to be found in older, rustier systems.
To clear these blockages, a method called powerflushing is used to send water through at force, dislodging and removing the build up of limescale, debris and sludge. It’s likely that you will notice the difference straight away, after a thorough powerflush, as the heat distribution is improved.
Not only will you feel comforted that this has been time well spent, but you’ll have the additional benefits of increasing your heating system’s future reliability, and, because it’s working more efficiently, lowering your household energy bills.
When do you need a powerflush?
There are a few signs to look out for with heating systems, which could be resolved by powerflushing:
- Radiators taking longer to heat up
- Sludge building up in the heating system
- Cold spots not clearing when bleeding the radiator
- Noisy boiler
